If you are a homeowner in the Denver area and have a crawl space (no basement), then you probably don’t give much thought to the crawl space under your home until there’s a problem. In most cases, if your crawl space is not sealed off, then moisture, excessive humidity, and unwanted critters are able to get inside and cause all kinds of problems. As water seeps inside your crawl space it can cause damage to any of the wood materials under your home. This includes support beams and floor joists. Usually, the problem is not noticed until the homeowner starts to notice sagging on the first floor of their home. This is not good.
Other Crawl Space Issues
Also, other issues can be from moisture causing a lot of humidity in your crawlspace that can lead to mold which has been known to cause all types of health issues. Molds can cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mold. In addition, mold exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mold-allergic and non-allergic people (EPA.gov).
Not to mention if your crawl space is not not sealed off, you could have mice, rats, snakes, spiders, mice, skunks, and other animals that can get inside it. Yes, these creatures can infest, and will live and die under your home which can affect your home’s indoor air quality.
